Fats Receives Replacements For Records Katrina Took

Published: Aug 15, 2007

Reproductions of 20 of Fats Domino's gold records lost or destroyed during Hurricane Katrina were presented to the 79-year-old Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer at a French Quarter nightclub Monday.

Domino was all smiles, saying repeatedly "thank you, thank you" to a crowd of about 100 friends and family. Also present were some of the city's most noted musicians, including Irma Thomas, Charmaine Neville and guitarist and singer Deacon John.

Among the gold-plated records Domino lost when Katrina flooded his Lower 9th Ward home two summers ago were "Going to the River," "Blue Monday," "Valley of Tears," "Blueberry Hill," "Whole Lotta Loving" and "I Want to Walk You Home."

Domino also was recognized Monday by the Recording Industry Association of America with its second American Music Legend award. Johnny Cash received the first award about a decade ago.

Passenger In Car Chase Sues Lohan

Lindsay Lohan was sued Tuesday for assault and negligence by a female passenger in a car the actress is accused of chasing while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Lohan "put me through one of the most frightening experiences of my life," Tracie Rice said in a statement after the lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

"What Miss Lohan did that night was extremely dangerous and reprehensible. Someone could easily have been killed or seriously hurt because of her irresponsible decisions that evening," Rice said.

The lawsuit also alleges intentional infliction of emotional distress. It seeks unspecified damages and payment of medical and other expenses related to emotional distress.

Gibson Soaks In Mayan Culture

Mel Gibson dined with Guatemala's president and admired Mayan murals in the capital's cultural palace after a weekend jungle visit.

The 51-year-old actor-director visited the Palace of Culture on Monday, where President Oscar Berger showed him contemporary murals portraying aspects of Mayan life and the Spanish conquest.

Afterward, the men had lunch at the presidential palace.

Gibson has visited the country many times as a tourist, a Berger spokeswoman said.

Attack By Dogs Shocking, Rhames Says

Ving Rhames released a statement Monday offering condolences over the death of his caretaker, who was mauled by the actor's dogs this month at Rhames' home in Brentwood, Calif.

"I was out of the country when this shocking and terrible tragedy occurred on my property," the statement says. "Jacob Adams was not just a devoted employee - he was also a dear friend. I want to offer my heartfelt condolences to his family."

Although Rhames goes on to say that a "coroner's report confirmed that my dogs were not the cause" of Adams' death, the Los Angeles Department of Coroner told People magazine that an autopsy is pending.

The case remains under investigation, Blake said.

It's unclear whether Rhames will face liability in the case or what the fate will be of his dogs, which are in custody at the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services.
