Myth: GHB isn’t addictive.
Fact: It is highly addictive, and frequent use can lead to a withdrawal syndrome known as GHB psychosis.
Myth: It builds muscles.
Fact: There is no scientific evidence that GHB increases muscle mass.
Myth: GHB can be fatal only when mixed with alcohol or other drugs.
Fact: About a third of the known fatalities involve GHB only.
Myth: Don’t call 911 for someone who has overdosed. Let them “sleep it off.”
Fact: An analysis of GHB overdose deaths concluded that many could have been saved with medical intervention.
Myth: GHB’s unpleasant taste makes it an unlikely drug to be used by sexual predators.
Fact: It is easily disguised when diluted in very cold, sweet or fruity drinks.
