TAMPA — They said they met Steven Lorenzo in bars and over the Internet.

Six men told investigators chilling tales of sharing drinks at Lorenzo's Powhattan Avenue home and waking up later, naked and injured. Some said they were tied up, and others said they had bruises or marks on their bodies.

The alleged encounters are detailed in a newly unsealed court document, which also names a Chicago area suspect linked to at least one of the assaults but not yet charged.

Lorenzo was indicted on federal charges Nov. 3, accused of giving "date rape" drugs to six men so he could sexually assault them. A U.S. magistrate ordered Lorenzo held without bail.

Authorities also are investigating whether Lorenzo is connected to the Dec. 20, 2003, disappearance of two gay men in Tampa: Jason Galehouse, 26, who is missing, and Michael Wachholtz, 26, who was killed.

The newly public document is an affidavit prepared the day of Lorenzo's indictment by Justin C. Duralia, an agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration, in connection with a search at the Peru, Ill., home of Scott Schweickert.

Reached by telephone Wednesday afternoon, Schweickert said, "I'm not quite sure what to say other than at this point in time, without hearing from the police down there, I don't have a comment."

The affidavit makes no reference to Wachholtz or Galehouse.

Galehouse's mother, Pam Williams of Sarasota, said she had talked to a case detective who told her about the Illinois search. "They couldn't get enough evidence on the guy, but they brought his computer back," she said.

Affidavit Includes Online Chats

According to the DEA agent's affidavit, Schweickert chatted with Lorenzo on the Internet about the use of drugs to make boys "submit." They also discussed how many heterosexual men disappeared and were thought to be runaways.

Authorities believe Lorenzo and Schweickert assaulted one victim the morning of Dec. 7, 2003, in Tampa, the court document says.

That victim met Lorenzo online and agreed to meet him and a friend named Scott at a grocery store parking lot for a possible sexual encounter, according to the affidavit. The victim told authorities he went with the two to Lorenzo's home and that the two men attacked him as he entered the house.

They forced the man to the ground, tied his hands behind his back and blindfolded him, the affidavit says. When the victim begged them to stop, they struck him, the affidavit says.

The two men told the victim to stop fighting or they would hurt him and he might not leave the house alive, the affidavit says.

The man was placed on a bed and partially undressed, the affidavit says. While Lorenzo "cuddled" him, Schweickert sexually tortured him, according to the court document. During the assault, the victim felt dizzy and remembered having a liquid dripped into his mouth, the court document says.

The man later identified Lorenzo and Schweickert from photographs, the affidavit says.

Another Encounter Described

The earliest assault described in the affidavit happened Nov. 10, 2000. A man who met Lorenzo at a nightclub went with him to his house. Lorenzo poured wine and vodka for the victim and an unknown third man, the court document says. The victim passed out and has no memory of what happened to him, the document says.

When the victim woke up, he was naked on the living room floor and unable to stand because of pain in his legs, the affidavit says. Emergency room doctors found ligature marks on the man's wrists and ankles. They speculated that he had been hung upside down.
