The Mass followed Pope John Paul II's funeral earlier this morning at the Vatican. The Rev. Joseph F. Doyle, presiding over the Tampa Mass, reminded students to follow the pope's examples. ``As a teacher, he taught us that we are good, have great gifts, and are made to do good and avoid evil,'' he said during the homily. To become holy we must be faithful to our spiritual gifts, he said. ``We must ask ourselves, `Is your soul charitable?' If not, correct it. `Do you have a sense of joy?' If not, do something about it. `Is your soul tranquil?' If not, find out why.'` Jesuit students Nick Plasencia and Kevin Donohue, both 17, were among several speakers who added their thoughts about the pope. Plasencia noted John Paul played key roles in bringing down the Berlin Wall and ending the Cold War. He also improved relations between Christians and Jews. ``He viewed all with equal eyes,'' he said. He accomplished great things despite his ordinary Polish Catholic background, Plasencia continued. Donohue said he had never traveled to the Vatican or seen the pope in person, but was influenced by him. ``I felt that bond,'' he said, ``that he was the man I was supposed to be like.''
